BN Strikes The Right Note?

Writes: BN begins to strike back (TUE, 23 NOV 2010 18:27)
By Zainal Epi

KUALA LUMPUR: The Barisan Nasional (BN) is on the roll: it has introduced a new open door concept to make the coalition more inclusive and a new logo to replace the dacing to reflect a stronger, more vibrant partnership.

Like it or not, the new concept and image may just hit the right note in the hearts and minds of Malaysians, particularly the young, who will form the bulk of the voters come the next general election.

Prime Minister and BN chairman Najib Tun Razak has taken the initiative to rebrand BN, given the coalition’s dismal performance in the 2008 general election.

At a recent BN supreme council meeting, he announced that those keen to join the BN can apply directly to become associate members.

This means they need not be a member of any existing political parties to enter the BN club.Observers believe the move was a master stroke as it will encourage people who are disillusioned with several of the coalition parties to support BN as direct members.

Many of the BN partners began looking inward after the 2008 drubbing, and started to make some changes but they ended up in a worse position.

Umno, the backbone of BN, has made a fast recovery ever since Najib took over the helm. His fresh approach has brought hope and enthusaism into the dejected BN camp and even won back supporters who had “jumped ship”.

Still in the wilderness

Today, Umno seems to be in a better position with many non-governmental organisations (NGOs) – Malay-based or otherwise – willing to work together with the party.

The MCA, the second largest party in the coalition, is still in the wilderness searching for answers as to why the Chinese community had abandoned the party.

The change of leadership does not seem to have much effect on the Chinese who seem to be drifting away from the party which claims to champion their cause.

The MIC has yet to see any significant change except that the Indian community seems to be running in and out of other multi-racial parties seeking an umbrella.

Gerakan seems to be on its own dreamland, occupied with infighting and, like the MCA, seeking a base again among the intellectual Chinese while losing its multi-racial colour.

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) is not faring any better – it is living in political oblivion.

In Sabah and Sarawak, the coalition parties are still intact with occasional minor noises coming from the peninular-based opposition parties.

Najib’s direct membership policy now seems to be the correct answer to regain the trust of the voters as many individuals and NGOs support the BN but not the coalition leaders.

Before Najib announced his new BN look, he has already won over many young Malaysians with his facebook and blogsite.

Perhaps his “grassroots” approach – dealing directly with the young – may have given him the idea of opening the BN door to associate members. Indeed it is a right move.

Najib’s move may not get the full support of his partners but he does not seem to be much bothered with the leaders of the parties.

His concern, judging from his new policies, is with the the people who will decide the fate of the ruling party.

In short, what Najib is doing right now is what democracy is all about – a government of the people, by the people and for the people.

Freedom Of Speech

Freedom of speech is to be able to say that our guests, whom we took into our houses when they were hungry and cold; who since then took an unfair advantage of our hospitality; who then knew that they have overstayed their welcome; are now making culculated moves to displace and eject the hosts out of some houses.

The disciplinary committee of PKR found the 12 members guilty of trying to form another party. They are grounded. Tensions are running high. Anwar Ibrahim you better stay out of Sabah for the present.
“I advised Anwar not to come until this whole thing is resolved. You take disciplinary action and expect the members to be happy, in a good mood and supportive?”: Jeffrey Kitingan.

Apa Itu 1Malaysia

So What Its Going To Be

DAP, PAS and PKR, collectively like to call themselves Pakatan Rakyat, agreed to indivdually pursue its own agendas vigourously while seeking to agree on disagreeing. But they all agree that DAP is the boss, whilst PAS and KEADILAN are just running dogs.

"Any problem with that?" brother Anwar asks the Tuan Guru.

And the Tuan Guru asks him , "And where does your allegiances lie, with our Bangsa Melayu and this country or with the elitist's society of a foreign country?"

Some well meaning friends sent me this cruel joke.

Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang mengadakan majlis berbuka puasa di tingkat 5 Komtar. Soerker Datok Halim mempengerusikan majlis sementara Guan Eng mengimami sembahyang maghrib.

Wah! Doa Zakaria makbul. Guan Eng dah masuk Islam. Cuma belum sunat.

PKR Mini Ring.

Anwar Ibrahim is trying to throw out Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

12 months ago Anwar hounded the 12 of Jeffrey's men connected with the failed effort to register Party Cinta Sabah.

People say Anwar in on the warpath again against his own PKR because Kittingan and the 12 is bad news for Azmin.

Bad blood between them was over when the Jeffrey withdrew his resignation. It was settled. Why does it resurfase again? Is it possible that Jeffrey + 12 will line up behind Zaid for the deputy president's post which Anwar earmarked for Azmin? Is Anwar preventing this possibility?

Hmmm. Anwar. Zaid. Azmin. Kittingan. Again.

One School For One Malaysia

Malaysians, and the elite at that, are demanding everything out of one another. They have turned into senseless brats, not wanting to share, quarrel for each other's toys.

But nature taught us to give, in order to get.

Aren't Malaysian religions teach their followers that too?

The Chinese wants the Malays to give them this. The Malays wants the Chinese to do that. The Hindraf Indians want the Malays to turn Bumiputras.

Where is your spirit of giving for the sake of love for each other man. Where is your love for your country man? Where is your love for your children and their future of this blessed land man?

At least learn how to give, or at least share like these SSS people! It's not outside of your means, if your are Malaysians that is.

MPM “demanding single school system”

This time we publish only one article. It shows the importance we attach to single-stream schooling. There’s no two-ways about the need for it. There has been a lack of a sense of togetherness and mutual respect among us citizens. Unacceptable words, actions, proposals and demands have been bandied about.

The prospect of racial cohesion has been thrown asunder. Now there are frequent raising of sensitive issues among the races. Denying the basis of our existence per the Constitution and what has been termed the Social Contract. One group or other trying to erode the rights of the Malays as enshrined in the Constitution. The responses by the Malay Consultative Council, the latest being in the article below. We need to do damage control and improve the existing situation.

“The time bomb is ticking fast“, said one columnist in Sin Chew. This time we agree with him. The Government has to act fast. There is a strong need to maintain the peace and harmony we have in the country now.

Without much further ado, let’s talk about this. Let’s find ways to get Malaysians together.

Democracy

Democracy means rule by a majority.

But since there is a majority of the ignorant in the world, democracy means rule of the ignorant over the elite. But it is the elite who are fit to rule ... and are ruling.

Allah Himself is a minority. The One And Only. An irreducible minority. But He is the ruler of the universe.

It is therefore the minority not the majority who has the right to rule.

Can somebody explain this Verse 120 of Chapter 2 of the Quran which reads (2:120) And the Jews will not be pleased with thee, nor will the Christians, till thou follow their creed. Say: Lo! the guidance of Allah (Himself) is Guidance. And if thou shouldst follow their desires after the knowledge which hath come unto thee, then wouldst thou have from Allah no protecting friend nor helper.

Thank you.
